The prison operational workforce

Inquiry

Following the announcement that a General Election will be held on 4 July, Select Committees will be unable to meet from 24 May and will cease to exist from 30 May until after the General Election. This work has therefore closed.

This inquiry examines the current state of the prison operational workforce. It seeks to understand why high volumes of prison officers are leaving the prison service and the implications of staff turnover against the backdrop of existing pressures. The inquiry also explores what measures are underway to recruit and retain staff and examines whether the prison service will be adequately resourced to manage the projected prison population increase.

Read the call for evidence to find out more about the inquiry.
