Safety of Rwanda (Asylum & Immigration) Bill

Legislative scrutiny

The Joint Committee on Human Rights would like your views on the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum & Immigration) Bill. The Bill would require all decision-makers, including the courts, to conclusively treat Rwanda as a safe country, with a view to ensuring that the Government can pursue its policy of sending asylum seekers from the UK to make their claims in Rwanda. The proposals in the Bill would engage fundamental human rights, including the prohibition on inhuman and degrading treatment under Article 3 and the right to an effective remedy under Article 13 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
