The Draft Spaceflight Bill inquiry

The Science and Technology Committee welcomes the publication of the draft Spaceflight Bill and the Government's ambitious timetable to enable commercial spaceflight to take place from the UK. However, MPs from the cross-party committee highlighted some of the draft Bill's provisions covering liabilities, indemnities and insurance which could hamper the development of small satellite and low-mass spacecraft launches; two areas whose growth the Bill aims to facilitate.

On the 21 February 2017, the Government published a Draft Spaceflight Bill to "provide for the creation of a regulatory framework to enable commercial spaceflight activities to be carried out from spaceports in the United Kingdom". Following on from its report on Satellites and Space, published in June 2016, the Science and Technology Committee will be examining the Draft Spaceflight Bill.
