Measuring Wellbeing

Non-inquiry session

The COVID-19  pandemic clearly poses a number of risks to (and opportunities for) the long-term economic and societal wellbeing of the UK, and this has increased calls from some quarters for the UK Government to rethink how it measures ‘success’ and to adopt a wellbeing measure (or measures) as an alternative to GDP. The Committee wants to consider what that might look like in practice, and how the UK Government could move from collecting data on wellbeing to making improving wellbeing a key priority when making policy and spending decisions.
