Heathrow chiefs to face MPs examining expansion plans
Bosses at Heathrow Airport and rival outfit Heathrow West Limited are set to face MPs looking into the government’s blueprint for a third runway.
The Transport Committee is embarking on the penultimate oral evidence session in its inquiry into the draft Heathrow Expansion National Policy Statement.
Wednesday’s session will see MPs questioning Heathrow's chief executive and chief development officer on why their scheme is uniquely placed to realise the benefits of expansion.
The Heathrow chiefs could also be asked about the financing of their proposals to expand the airport, potential charges for airlines and passengers, and how they plan to sequence expansion alongside surface access projects.
Earlier on MPs will hear from Heathrow West Limited, a vehicle established by the Arora Group and the only other developer whose proposal expansion of Heathrow Airport has been considered viable by the Department for Transport.
The Heathrow West Limited scheme involves a shorter runway of 2,400m, with the possibility of extending to 3,500m in the future, and MPs will explore the pros and cons of this approach.
Bosses at Heathrow West Limited could also be quizzed on the financing of their proposals, potential charges and surface access projects.
