Climate Change Committee to give evidence on Heathrow expansion
The Transport Committee is to continue its Heathrow expansion inquiry with evidence from residents, campaign groups and senior figures at the Climate Change Committee (CCC).
The Committee is scrutinising the draft Heathrow Expansion National Policy Statement (HENPS) published by the Department for Transport in June 2026.
In Tuesday’s session, MPs will hear from the chief analyst at the CCC and an influential member who has played a significant role authoring its reports.
The government formally requested the CCC’s views on Heathrow expansion plans last year and its advice was published in September 2026.
The CCC stated that there is no credible pathway for expansion within the UK’s climate commitments under current policies, and MPs will examine the body's analysis and recommendations.
Before the CCC’s evidence, Tuesday’s session will kick off with a five-strong panel composed of residents and campaign groups.
This panel will feature leaders of residents' associations in Hillingdon, Surrey and Putney. Also on the panel will be former Labour MP Parmjit Dhanda, now leader of a community campaign supporting the plans.
Witnesses on this panel could face questions covering noise, air pollution, transport impacts, employment opportunities and community compensation.
