MPs to examine immigration and asylum appeals plans

The Justice Committee will hold a one-off evidence session to scrutinise the Government’s Immigration and Asylum Bill ahead of the proposed legislation’s second reading in the Commons.

MPs on the cross-party committee, chaired by Labour MP Andy Slaughter, will examine the Bill’s plans to establish the Independent Immigration Appeals Authority (IIAA).

The IIAA would be responsible for replacing the current role of the First Tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber).
