UK climate policy on the world stage
Across two oral evidence hearings this week - on Tuesday afternoon and concluding with climate minister Katie White on Wednesday morning - the Committee holds a quick inquiry on the UK’s position as a leader in international climate policy.
Across the two sessions the Committee will consider:
- How UK delivery of domestic climate commitments underpins its standing on climate, energy, and environmental issues globally
- Signs of fragmentation of political consensus and stalling progress on climate goals, and the impact on the UK’s historical positive record on climate governance
- Insights from businesses, NGOs and city coalitions on the growing role of these ‘non-state actors’ in climate change policy processes and delivery
- And with growing critiques of the progress at recent ‘Conference of the Parties’ (COP) summits, how can the UK best engage with reform of international climate policy architecture?
