Cross-border healthcare: MPs to question NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee

Senior representatives from NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee (NWJCC) will be questioned by the Welsh Affairs Committee for its inquiry into the challenges around commissioning cross-border healthcare.

The NWJCC is responsible for planning and securing specialist services for the whole of Wales and commissions specialist services outside of Wales.

Meeting details

At 2:30pm: Oral evidence
Inquiry Cross-border healthcare arrangements between England and Wales
Chief Commissioner at NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee
Director of Commissioning for Specialised Services at NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee
Medical Director at NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee

The evidence session is the committee’s second of the week, following its hearing with all seven Welsh local health boards the day before. There are likely to be questions reflecting on this previous session and how the NWJCC works with the local health boards to support patients.

With a focus on patient experience, this session will also provide transparency on the NWJCC’s cross-border referral process and how this process could be improved.

MPs are also likely to ask about the potential impact of the abolition of NHS England.
