Ofsted and British Association of Social Workers questioned on children’s social care
The Joint Committee will question Ofsted about key concerns highlighted in their inspection and regulation of services that provide care for children and young people.
Meeting details
The session will examine how well providers are performing and the current approach to monitoring their activities.
The Children’s Commissioner has warned that 670 children had been placed in what she describes as illegal children’s homes, including caravans and holiday rentals, at high cost and without a formal inspection regime. The session will examine what progress has been made in dealing with unregulated and potentially unsafe children’s homes.
The Joint Committee will also question the British Association of Social Workers on the challenges faced on the ground by social workers providing care for children in the social care system. This will include issues such as the treatment of disabled children, kinship care and support for care leavers once they turn 18.
