Transport Committee set to quiz Secretary of State on HS2 and jet fuel shortages

The Transport Secretary is likely to be quizzed on areas ranging from High Speed 2 to possible jet fuel shortages as she appears before the Transport Committee next week.

Work Work of the Secretary of State for Transport (Regular evidence sessions)
Secretary of State for Transport at Department for Transport
Permanent Secretary at Department for Transport

MPs will examine the Department for Transport's strategic priorities with questions set to cover the latest timelines for HS2 and progress made on the design of Great British Railways.

They could also press the Transport Secretary on Northern Powerhouse Rail, Heathrow Expansion and the Lower Thames Crossing.

Elsewhere in the session, the Transport Secretary may be asked about her aims for the recently published 'Better Connected' Strategy on integrated transport.

With the national average wait for practical driving tests currently 22.1 weeks and a recent change of rules removing driving instructors’ ability to book tests, MPs could once again delve into delays to driving tests.

The session comes amid reports of delays and disruptions at European airports following the rollout of the European Union's new Entry/Exit System (EES) and the Transport Secretary is likely to be pressed on how she is responding to this.

MPs are also set to ask how the Transport Secretary is responding to widespread media reports about the possibility of flight cancellations and significant price rises this summer due to the US-Israel war with Iran.
