MPs to examine Government's vision for integrated transport
The Transport Committee will examine the Government's recently published ‘Better Connected’ strategy on integrated transport.
Meeting details
Published in April 2026, the strategy is billed as the Government’s vision for domestic transport in England. It sets out three guiding principles supporting eight priorities to enable “more seamless journeys across the network” in the future.
The Committee will hear from a five-strong expert panel in the fifth and penultimate evidence session for its inquiry into joined up journeys.
Witnesses will be asked about the strategy’s contents and vision, how feasible it is that the vision can be implemented, and whether there are significant gaps or omissions in it.
They are likely to be quizzed on whether the strategy has enough detail on how the aim of seamless connections between rail and bus services will be achieved, and how private cars should feature.
MPs could explore the technical and regulatory challenges to delivering a single, nationwide integrated ticketing system, and whether the strategy adequately reflects the needs of disabled passengers.
There is also likely to be a focus on whether the strategy strikes the right balance between central direction and local autonomy in transport planning, and on the wider benefits that integration could bring.
