Operation Kenova: MPs to question Sir Ian Livingstone and Jon Boutcher on final report – Wednesday 14 January at 9.30am

The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee holds a session examining the final report of Operation Kenova - the investigation into the alleged activities within the Provisional IRA of the British agent codenamed ‘Stakeknife’.

Meeting details

At 9:30am: Oral evidence
Work Operation Kenova: final report (Non-inquiry session)

Giving evidence will be officer in overall command of Operation Kenova, Sir Iain Livingstone, and former lead officer and current PSNI chief constable Jon Boutcher.

The session will be a chance to explore the overall outcome, achievements and effectiveness of Operation Kenova, following the publication of the final report last month.

There are likely to be questions on the UK Government’s refusal to authorise confirmation of the identity of ‘Stakeknife’, as recommended by the report. MPs could also raise the relationship between Operation Kenova and the PSNI, MI5 and MoD in terms of information sharing, and how the investigation engaged with victims and families.

The Kenova interim report, published in March 2024, made ten recommendations, and the session will be an opportunity to explore their implementation, as well as any lessons learned for future legacy investigations.
