MPs examine performance and priorities of Welsh-language broadcaster S4C
On Wednesday 14 January, the Welsh Affairs Committee will examine the performance and priorities of Welsh-language broadcaster S4C.
Meeting details
S4C is a wholly Welsh language channel broadcasting independently produced programmes across a range of genres including news, drama, documentaries, entertainment and children’s content.
During the regular scrutiny session, which will take place in both English and Welsh, MPs will question Chair Delyth Evans, Lead Independent Member of the Board Dyfrig Davies and Chief Executive Geraint Evans.
The session is an opportunity to review S4C’s recently published 2030 strategy and how it is responding to the wider challenges facing Welsh broadcasting, including plans to expand and engage younger audiences. The Committee is also likely to explore the organisation’s culture and HR practices.
With the majority of S4C’s public funding coming through the TV licence fee and the current BBC charter due to expire next year, MPs may also ask about issues related to the future of funding.
Delyth Evans was appointed in April following a pre-appointment hearing with the Committee. In its report endorsing her appointment, the Committee invited her to return to give an update on her progress six months into the job.
