The Government's new approach to addressing the legacy of the past in Northern Ireland Wednesday 5 November, 9.30am, Committee Room 15, Palace of Westminster Watch live on Parliamentlive.tv
The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee continues its work examining the Government’s new approach to addressing the legacy of the past in Northern Ireland by questioning the Chief Commissioner at the NI Human Rights Commission Alyson Kilpatrick, the Commissioner for Victims & Survivors for NI Joe McVey, and the Northern Ireland Veterans Commissioner David Johnstone.
The Committee took evidence from Hilary Benn last week after he brought forward legislation to implement the UK and Irish Governments’ joint framework to address the legacy of the Troubles, and next week’s session will be an opportunity to explore reactions to the statement and views on the new Bill with the three commissioners.

They are likely to be asked about the proposals for the new Independent Commission for Information Retrieval and the Legacy Commission, including in relation to appointments, independence and resourcing. There could also be discussion about the proposals to reinstate inquests and the protections proposed for veterans engaging with the legacy process.
