The Welsh Affairs Committee holds a session on the work of the Crown Estate in Wales, focussing on its priorities over the coming months, the new provisions in the Crown Estate Act, and its role in delivering tidal and offshore wind energy projects off the coast of Wales.

Meeting details

At 2:45pm: Oral evidence
Work The Work of the Crown Estate in Wales (Non-inquiry session)
Chief Executive at The Crown Estate
Director of Devolved Nations at The Crown Estate

The Crown Estate manages a £13 billion property portfolio of UK buildings, shoreline, seabed, forestry, agriculture and common land.

In Wales, the Crown Estate leases seabed space for offshore wind and tidal projects, which generate income for the Treasury and could help the UK meet its renewable energy and climate goals. The Crown Estate also manages over 50,000 acres of common land in Wales.

Chief Executive Dan Labbad and Director of Devolved Nations Rebecca Williams are likely to be asked about the expansion of offshore wind, including floating offshore wind, and the importance of balancing financial returns with sustainable development and tangible benefits to local communities.

The witnesses are also likely to be asked about the process and timeline for appointing a Crown Estate Commissioner with special responsibility for Wales, as set out by the 2025 Crown Estate Act.
