Minister and trade union chiefs questioned on up-skilling transport manufacturing workforce
The Transport Committee will question a Minister, trade union leaders and the Chief Executive of Skills England, as it completes its inquiry into skills for transport manufacturing.
Meeting details
In this inquiry MPs have been looking at how government policy and spending could nurture the UK’s manufacturing industries that provide for its rail, motor vehicle, bus, maritime and aerospace sectors. The inquiry has a particular focus on the changing skills needs of these industries, and how the Government can help strengthen their workforces.
The cross-party Committee will be likely to ask witnesses to discuss how the skills needs of businesses are changing with new advances in technology, how the Growth and Skills Levy could help employers upskill their staff, how routes into these sectors could be more accessible, and how to promote a positive perception of these trades as career options.
There may also be questions about how the Government can increase the percentage of women in the transport manufacturing sectors, how skills needed to decarbonise transport sectors with cleaner fuels can be developed, and how it could become easier for small to medium enterprises to invest in training their workers.
