Justice Committee to question the Attorney General and Solicitor General

The Justice Committee will question the Rt Hon Lord Hermer KC and Lucy Rigby MP during an evidence session on Wednesday, 15 January examining the work of the Attorney General and Solicitor General.

MPs on the cross-party committee, chaired by Labour MP Andy Slaughter, will scrutinise the work of the Law Officers and their priorities across a range of issues within their collective portfolio.

The wide-ranging evidence session is expected to touch upon how the Law Officers see the Government’s commitment to the rule of law affecting its term of office, and what their role is in ensuring that commitment is upheld.

Discussion is also expected to include the Government’s role in strengthening human rights legislation, assisted dying, violence against women and girls, issues of international significance such as the prosecution of war crimes in Ukraine and the ICC arrest warrant for the Prime Minister of Israel and others, plus the superintendence of the Crown Prosecution Service and Serious Fraud Office.
