A flexible grid for the future inquiry: ESNZ Committee holds session on strategic spatial planning, grid connections and planning system reform
The third oral evidence session in the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee’s flexible grid for the future inquiry considers how reforms to strategic spatial planning, grid connections and the planning system could accelerate the delivery of the infrastructure and grid capacity needed for a decarbonised power system.
Meeting details
The first panel features three renewable developers focussed on projects connected to both the transmission and distribution networks. The Committee then goes on to explore with the second panel wider long-term issues such as the need for anticipatory investment in grid infrastructure, planning, supply chain constraints and community engagement.
Witnesses are likely to be asked about the reforms needed to the planning system and the procedure for securing connections to the transmission and distribution networks and how best to solve skills shortages within network operators.
