New Chair of Ofgem: ESNZ Committee holds pre-appointment hearing with Government’s preferred candidate Mark McAllister
The Energy Security and Net Zero Committee is to hold a pre-appointment hearing with Mark McAllister, the Government’s preferred candidate for Chair of energy regulator Ofgem.
Meeting details
Following the session, the Committee will publish a report on its view on Mr McAllister’s suitability for the role, which the Government will then consider before deciding whether to proceed with the appointment.
The Committee will ask Mr McAllister questions designed to test his suitability for the role and his knowledge of Ofgem and the energy sector. The Committee is likely to explore his reasons for applying for the position and the qualities he feels he can bring to the job. Mr McAllister could also be asked about issues such as the price cap and standing charges and the performance of energy suppliers.
Mr McAllister is currently Chair of the Office for Nuclear Regulation. If confirmed, he is expected to take up his new post next month.
