Tackling misogyny in the music industry? Minister questioned by MPs
e Women and Equalities Committee will question Sir John Whittingdale MP, Media, Tourism and Creative Industries Minister, on misogyny in music, in the sixth session of its inquiry.
Meeting details
According to evidence submitted by academics to this inquiry, 99% of women surveyed experienced bullying while working in music. However, 80% of women who experienced either bullying or harassment did not report it.
The Committee will investigate how women can be better protected in the music industry and how the Government can implement policies to achieve this.
Drawing on issues voiced by previous witnesses, MPs will likely question the Minister on the lack of legal protections for freelancers, the use of non-disclosure agreements to silence victims, and improving standards to tackle discrimination.
