The Work and Pensions Committee holds a one-off evidence session examining the effectiveness of sanctions used in the social security system.

The session gives MPs the chance to hear the views of policy experts on how conditionality affects people and employment outcomes and what can be learnt from benefit systems in other countries.

The Government announced a strengthening of the sanctions regime in this year’s Budget and last month the DWP published a report on the impact of sanctions on employment outcomes.
