The Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (LUHC) Committee questions witnesses from the planning, local authority, and housing sectors for the Committee’s work examining the Government’s consultation on reforms to national planning policy.
Meeting details
The Committee will be looking at the proposed changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and the Government’s wider approach to planning reform.
The cross-party group of MPs is likely to examine how the reforms to national planning policy might affect planning and housing provision across England.
The Committee is likely to explore how the reforms may affect the primacy of local plans and local housing need, as well as issues concerning the Government’s stated commitment to its housing target..
In addition to examining the Government’s proposed changes to the NPPF, the Committee is also expected to look at areas including the approach to developing National Development Management Policies (NDMPs), and other proposals for planning reform resulting from the Levelling-up and Regeneration Bill.
The evidence session follows the deadline (on 2 March) of the Government’s consultation on reforms to national planning policy.
The LUHC Committee recently published correspondence from Rachel Maclean, Minister of State for Housing and Planning, which set out a table of all the Government’s planning reform consultations.
