Edward Argar and Sentencing Council questioned on public understanding of sentencing
The Justice Committee questions Justice Minister, Edward Argar, and Chair of the Sentencing Council, Lord Justice William Davis on Tuesday 13 December in a session examining public opinion and understanding of sentencing.

The Committee questions the Justice Minister on the Government’s approach to developing sentencing policy and role public perceptions of sentencing play in this. It will also look at what the Government can do to improve understanding of the sentencing process.
It examines the work of the Sentencing Council in developing sentencing guidelines and strengthening public confidence in sentencing. It will also look at the potential impact of innovations to improve public understanding, including the broadcast of Crown Court sentencing remarks.
