Dominic Raab questioned on Bill of Rights Bill
The Joint Committee on Human Rights questions Secretary of State for Justice Dominic Raab on Wednesday as it undertakes legislative scrutiny of the Bill of Rights.
With reports emerging that the centrepiece of Dominic Raab’s legislative agenda is set to face further delays, the session examines what the future holds for the Bill of Rights Bill. The Government argues that reform of the Human Rights Act is necessary to re-balance the relationship between Parliament, UK courts and the European Court of Human Rights. It also promises greater protection for freedom of speech and limits on what it regards as frivolous cases being brought under human rights legislation.

The session examines whether the legislation achieves the Government’s aim and look in detail at its implications for the protection of human rights in the UK. It also explores how the Bill would impact the operations of Parliament, public authorities and the courts, in key areas including immigration, freedom of expression and overseas military operations.
