Committee questions authors of report on state of paramilitarism in NI
The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee questions the authors of a report that recommends a formal transition process for the break-up of paramilitary groups and further efforts to address the social and economic problems in the areas they operate in.

The Independent Reporting Commission published its most recent report on the 7 December. The Commission was established in 2017 by the UK and Irish Governments to report on progress towards ending paramilitarism in Northern Ireland. It maintained that paramilitarism was still a ‘clear and present danger’, adding that ‘2022 has been another mixed year in respect of efforts to bring paramilitarism to an end’.
This session is the latest of the Committee’s inquiry into the effect of paramilitary activity and organised crime on society in Northern Ireland.
