Top Welsh tourist attractions give evidence to MPs considering Wales as a global tourist destination

As the Welsh Affairs Committee continues taking evidence on Wales as a global tourist destination, it hears from top attractions on their experiences of both domestic and international tourism.

Penderyn Distillery, Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways, Portmeirion Cymru and Zip World will all be appearing before the Committee. Penderyn Distillery exports Welsh single malt whiskies to over 40 countries, the Welsh Highland Railway is the UK’s longest heritage railway, Portmeirion Cymru is an Italianate tourist village featured in numerous films and Zip World runs zip lines at four sites across Wales, including the world’s fastest zip line at Penrhyn Quarry.

Likely areas of questioning

Among the issues likely to be discussed are:

  • The attractions’ relationships with VisitBritain and VisitWales;
  • Which international markets the attractions have had the most success with to date;
  • Views on how to promote Wales as a global tourist destination.
