What is the state of policing in Wales?
In a one-off evidence session, the Welsh Affairs Committee will hear from senior officers from the four Welsh police forces.
MPs will take evidence from the police forces’ Chief Constables on a range of issues including the police structure and funding. The evidence session is also likely to explore the relationships with the UK and Welsh governments as well as with the Police and Crime Commissioners, police performance and public attitudes towards policing along with rural crime.
Policing policy in Wales is reserved to the UK Government and the Home Office is responsible for setting strategies regarding the most pressing national crime threats and how police forces should respond to them. Roughly a third of the budget for Welsh police forces comes from the Home Office, with the remaining being provided by the Welsh Government and through council tax.
