Written evidence from Parental Submission 171

  1. I have already submitted evidence re. My older son who was subjected to  omolete denial of needs despite now being acknowledged as a high needs learner and barely able to leave the home.

  1. Younger son aged 9 has always had sensory sensitivities and I’ve voiced my thoughts about his difficulties at school where I was reassured that he was being supported and despite him really finding it tough to transition and access school, he did so up until year 5 with good attendance.

  1. He’d had the same teacher for 3 years and this year the classroom/ teacher /mixed aged group has changed.
  2. I voiced my concerns at the end of year 4 as to his anxieties about the upcoming changes. There didn’t seem to be much in the way of matching concern from school. His end of year report stated the importance of him growing his independence for secondary school. No mention of him being on the SEN register or having regular support.

  1. September and the ramping up of work expectations plus the changes in the environment marked the end of school attendance.

  1. I procured a private sensory assessment which brought a report and recommendations for use in school and home.

  1. There have also been issues with no supporting evidence from school to support any diagnostics by two previous referrals to a paediatrician. Apparently any information has been lost in transit somehow. This is a common occurrence. Therefore E has twice been discharged with no further support.

  1. Awaiting 3rd paediatrician.

  1. [Local authority] have refused an EHCP assessment saying that my son hasn’t given himself a chance to settle in to the new year or given school a chance to support him. His anxiety is extremely high and he had been unable to attend despite being a compliant and eager to please child.

  1. Attended mediation recently. LA refused to assess due to lack of belief in the SPD report and recommendations and the lack of attendance to school which they feel indicates he hasn’t given school a chance to support him. Claims that they have no diagnosis or recommendations from a paediatrician to support any interventions.

  1. Awaiting SEND tribunal in March. A further several months wasted where we cannot even access an Out of School Tutor.

  1. Currently educating both children at home. I have not deregistered either child as their issues have not been caused by my intentions to home educate, they have been caused by lack of appropriate support.
  2. Support from MAT has been a ‘safeguarding’ visit and intentions of further support which have not yet come to be evident.

  1. To be continued.
