Written evidence from Parental Submission 181
- Assessment of and support for children and young people with SEND
- The portage worker was provided who helped us a lot to secure the EHCP and some early interventions was provided for my child such as visual cards and puzzles and other engaging activities.
- The transition from statements of special educational needs and Learning Disability Assessments to Education, Health and Care Plans
- This is not applicable as my child was subject to EHCP plan directly and managed to secure in 2016 when he was 3 during at [nursery] which was great start.
- The level and distribution of funding for SEND provision
- There have been long queues/delays to get the right Therapies i.e. Occupational Therapy. I am still chasing with [local authority] to arrange the occupational therapy for my child even though OT eligibility is provisioned in my child’s EHC Plan. There always lack of funds and resource to arrange these therapies which is essential in young age and it make lot of difference in their behaviour, speech and comprehension.
- The roles of and co-operation between education, health and social care sectors
- In my view and our experience with SENCO teachers, health worker and social care sectors are doing great job and their co-operations and co-ordinations are also brilliant. But there is further need of awareness of Autism spectrum related young people and more budget/funds to be allocated for this class so that more professional can be trained and give the best possible therapies pack as possible.
- Provision for 19-25-year olds including support for independent living; transition to adult services; and access to education, apprenticeships and work
