Correspondence between Dr Richard Freeman and the Chair of the Committee
Email from Dr Richard Freeman to the Chair of the Committee, 4 January 2018
Dear Mr Collins
I write following your email of 3 January 2018 and am pleased to note the Select Committee is moving towards finalisation of its findings and recommendations later this month.
I note the content of your email which refers to “new evidence” being seen. I have sought legal advice from Queen’s Counsel, which is to the effect that in circumstances where I have not had disclosed to me the nature of the “new evidence”, its format, source and any other relevant details, including why the evidence should only be available now, it would not be appropriate for me to respond presently. Given the potential seriousness of the matters you have now raised, I am advised that mindful of the background of various investigations which are ongoing, I should not be expected to provide any further comment to you presently.
I trust you will understand my position.
Yours sincerely
Dr Richard Freeman
Email from the Chair of the Committee to Dr Richard Freeman, 3 January 2018
Dear Dr Freeman
The Select Committee is finalising its report into doping in sport and will be looking to publish its findings and recommendations in January.
We have recently seen new evidence, which relates to the ordering of the medical package for Sir Bradley Wiggins at the 2011 Dauphine. This evidence states that the product that you requested be brought out from Manchester for you to administer to Bradley Wiggins was triamcinolone.
I would welcome your response to this, which will be helpful to the committee as we consider what comment to make in our final report.
