Executive summary.
The university system, through neglect of the State, has increasingly turned into a political indoctrination camp. Only one side of the political argument is increasingly heard in many departments, especially the humanities. This viewpoint is aligned with the left-wing of the political spectrum. Thus, students increasingly go through their degrees only hearing one-side of the political debate, and do not understand the value of the alternative worldview. Without understanding the validity of the other side of the argument, the ability to talk about divergent viewpoints on campus becomes difficult and situations become increasingly hostile. A lack of understanding helps no one. There are several key problems.
- Though the left demand diversity and tolerance, they have no desire at all for diversity of political views or for tolerance of Christian viewpoints that are useful in many debates. The hiring codes of universities mean that very few conservatives or Christians are lecturers. Students fail to hear the wide range of arguments needed to understand how civil society is built. They leave university with a social progressive worldview, put it into practice, and civil society falls to pieces because they do not really understand how sustainable cultures are built.
- There are no departments of Marriage and Family in the whole of the university system. This is despite the fact that breakdown of marriage is placing a massive financial burden on State finances and more citizens than ever before are struggling to build a marriage so as to best protect their children and future, civil society. Without experts, how can students understand the wider issues in the debates we are having on sexuality and family formation?
- Hate speech laws cause certain topics to become taboo. But sexual and marital norms play a massive role in creative healthy communities. The lack of freedom to talk about such issues, to live in fear of being fined or fired for trying to discuss these issues, causes problems both on campuses and in the wider community.
About the Author:
I have lectured for many years on issues connected with the marital-family and on self-development. I have recently become interested in how our culture is increasingly turning hostile to marriage and how a culture of victimhood is growing as a direct result of the breakdown in our marital norm. Since marriage plays a massive role in building a civil society, for the university system to totally neglect this aspect of our humanity is a disaster for any nation. More than this, today’s universities actively seek to destroy the culture of marriage through consistent criticism. But they fail to mention that all alternatives have far worse outcomes for men, women, children, and society. I sincerely fear that a decline in cultural wellbeing can be the only outcome. Universities play a vital role in creating a healthier nation. Here, State money is being used to do the opposite. And the lack of freedom to talk about such issues on the university campus itself damages us all.
- Looking back in history, all of the major empires that Europe created had the same starting point. The great civilizations—the Greek, the Roman, the Teutonic, and the Protestant British—all started from the exact same foundation. They all had the expectation of monogamous marriage, of no divorce, and of chastity before marriage. After adopting these traditions, all these human cultures unleashed a tremendous amount of energy.
- Absolute monogamy created the foundation for the rise of democracy and the growth of wealth in ancient Greece. Several centuries later, the Romans copied this marital tradition and put it into their legislation. The Roman Empire was born. The Germanic, Teutonic order embedded the same tradition of absolute monogamy into their Catholic traditions, and they created a flourishing and prosperous empire from the 1200’s onwards. And the same happened in the UK in the 1600’s when the Puritan Protestants came to power, thus creating the foundation for the British empire to be born—an empire where a tiny island with a population of around ten million people came to dominate one-fifth of the world. This little island not only controlled Canada, the USA, Australia, and New Zealand but also dominated India (seventy-five million) and had enough energy to make the Chinese (three hundred million) seriously worried about opposing them. Through following the norms that are all part building a lasting, life-long marriage, the UK became mighty mouse on steroids. The same dynamics were also at work at the start of both the Sumerian and Babylonian empires, both of which created impressive civilizations that we can see the remnants of today.
- Put simply, a stable, developing nation is built on the foundation of a reasonably strong marital-norm. Why? Because marriage is fundamentally about the two, biological parents taking responsibility for the children they bring into the world. If they do their job reasonably well, social problems are minimized. This allows the State to get on with its job as protector of the nation and play its roll as seeking to help families and children have better outcomes in each successive generation.
- In 1960’s, cold war tension between the USSR (whose economy was based on State-controlled Marxism) and the democratic, Western nations (whose economies were developing under the free market system) was at its height. A wall was built down the middle of Europe. Nuclear bombs were being pointed at each other. The USSR, which was interested in world domination, had come to realize that the workers in the West were not going to rise up and overthrow the political leaders in some form of popular revolution. There had to be another way to weaken the West—weaken it so much that one day the Marxist, State-controlled USSR could take over and rule the world. They came up with the idea of cultural Marxism, a purposeful attempt to weaken the cultural fabric of Western society.
- In 1963, the US Congress took note of forty-five goals that the USSR had laid out—goals that communist Russia believed would eventually lead to the takeover of the USA and Europe. These communist goals aimed at weakening the Christian-based culture that made the USA and Europe strong. If the communist USSR could undermine the culture that built the West, if they could convince citizens to leave our natural-family norms, if they could convince citizens to stop placing limits on their sexual behaviour—limits that provided both the citizens and the social fabric with life-giving forces—then the USSR could eventually take these weakened nations over. Among the forty-five goals were: -
- #25—Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, and on the radio and TV.
- #26—Present homosexuality as “normal, natural, healthy” and encourage promiscuity.
- #28—Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and State” and,
- #40—Discredit the marital family as an institution and encourage easy divorce.
- Looking at the Western world today, many of these goals have been achieved. Our cultures have been transformed, very much along the lines that the USSR once planned. Much of the Western way of life has been taken over by a thought system that was dreamt up in the USSR over fifty years ago. It’s a fascinating aspect of cultural Marxism that a Conservative government can be in power in the UK today, but still, the government can be happily promoting the sexual and anti-family norms that the USSR was seeking to promote in all Western nations so as to bring about future, cultural decline. Marx would be so very proud. The fact that this is happening shows how mixed up even the leaders of our countries and our universities have now become.
- Sustainable cultures and civilizations are ONLY built on the foundation of marital-families. That is the fact of the matter. There never has been a civilization built upon single parenting, gay unions, or cohabitation. None. Why? Because when children are raised outside the love and protection of their two biological parents, they are more likely to reach adulthood having experienced a whole range of negative moments in their life. They are more likely to feel unloved – and thus take drugs, be depressed, or do unhealthy things to get some love. Alternatively, they are more likely to grow up having been hurt and, as adults, they are more likely to hurt others.
- Thus, after the government has passed abortion law more children than ever are being born to a single mother. Also, after the government passed irretrievable-breakdown. divorce law, our prisons started to fill up, every year more children commit self-harm, more are on depressants than ever before, STD’s rise by the year and we are almost out of antibiotics to treat them, person-on-person violence grows by the year, and the national debt is spiralling out of control as the State seeks to pay for all this damage. British culture, once wholly sustainable and developing, is now in its death throws – which is what the Marxists of the USSR planned all along.
- But though the USSR died long ago, the Marxists didn’t. They have taken over positions of power in universities all across the developed world. They seek to close down any chance of the next generation finding out how horrible a future the Marxists have planned for our ex-Christin nations. They stop almost any Conservative views from being heard on campus. The lecturers increasingly fear saying something –something truthful - which will get reported as ‘hate speech’. Many university departments have become indoctrination camps. For example, to study English Literature you might also have to study Gender, race, Ethnicity, Sexuality studies, post-Colonial studies and Critical theory. Almost all texts you do study will be analysed from a feminist or Marxist viewpoint. You are trained to be a Marxist, social justice warrior who will go out into the world and fight for equality, tolerance, inclusivity and more – all the while civil society is falling to pieces because ever-increasing numbers of kids are being raised outside the love and protection of their two biological parents.
- Why is it called cultural Marxism? Because the story they spin leads the young to believe that through following their pathway, future society will improve. In fact, just as we found with the Marxist worldview that overtook Russia for seventy years, their story actually creates oppression and decay. If you care about your children and grandchildren, or if you care about your pension and the well-being of your nation, it’s good to sit up and take note of how so many of us have come to believe that we are creating a brighter future for our nations, even though all the data shows that the West is really in a state of terminal decline. This is what cultural Marxism does. It confuses the mind. It increasingly destroys the ability of heterosexuals to marry and stay married for the sake of their biological children and for the sake of the wider community. The cultural Marxists laugh at marriage. They rip it to pieces. Children suffer. The next generation has worse outcomes. The cultural Marxists rejoice because with this destruction comes more power for the State. The State becomes the messianic fixer of all things and thus takes more power unto itself. With almost no family support system left, and religious communities dying because of the atheistic worldview the State teaches in schools, who else can the challenged young person turn to for help?
- Today, the State sadly doesn’t understand enough about marriage and how it is constructed so as to protect children. We know this because almost every time the State gets involved in topics connected to sexuality and marriage, the next generation finds it harder to marry and stay married, and our children have worse outcomes. This has been the history of the UK for the last sixty years.
- And now we have gender-fluid theory to contend with. Once again, this is an idea inspired by the cultural-Marxist, university departments. The goal is once again to weaken sexual norms and thus weaken the ability of the next generation to build lasting marriages so as to best protect children and civil society. And once again we have the government pushing full ahead with it’s commitment to trans-theory. How on earth can the State believe that redefining womanhood into a malformed, political construct will strengthen civil society? When a child is placed into the hands of a bearded transwoman and told, “This is your mother,” what is the child meant to make of this? How on earth does the State think that teaching gender-fluid theory in school – thus confusing young children about the very nature of their being – will help prepare them for marriage? How will transitioning young children – most of whom will naturally grow out of their gender confusion – help them build better marriages when so many transsexuals are depressed, or out of work, or are unable to build a lasting relationship, or are more likely to commit suicide? How lost has the State become?
- It is hard to understand why the government isn’t looking at the data on childhood outcomes and noticing that something is going terribly wrong.
- The challenge of freedom of speech on the campuses is a multifaceted one. By far the biggest problem is that the idea of diversity is not really enforced. We have departments dedicated to making sure the staff come from diverse backgrounds – race, gender, ethnicity, sexual behaviour, and more. However, we have no demand that some 50% of the staff hold a more conservative viewpoint or some 30-50% of the staff also be religious in their worldview – thus presenting students with a diverse range of ideas that represent the wider social fabric. Without real diversity, many university departments become dominated by one worldview, that of the cultural-Marxist left – and it is destroying our beloved nation. It is not so much that a professor can’t speak truthfully (though this is getting harder all the time) – it is just that so few professors with a right-of-centre political worldview or with a Christian viewpoint are hired. Both these worldviews teach the basic responsibility of an adult in community. But the left teaches that all things are fine in the world of sexual behaviour, that marriage is just a piece of paper or an oppressive, patriarchal institution, and that a larger welfare state is the only path forward to healthier nation. And thus, each new generation grows up to act less responsibly as citizens in community, the welfare state grows, and the nation goes bankrupt.
- The left talk of diversity, but they do not mean it. They only mean diversity on their terms, and this diversity doesn’t include religious or political diversity. In such a one-sided environment, students struggle to learn how a civil society is really built. When they get out into the world, they try to put progressive socialism into practice, and society falls to pieces. The State has a duty to make sure such an imbalance does not happen.
- Another problem is the problem of no departments of Marriage and Family within the whole university system. I can study gender studies at seven universities. I cannot study marriage in one. Since family breakdown costs the state some fifty billion pounds a year, surely the government should be interested in doing research into how to strengthen marriage so fewer kids will get hurt. Surely the government would want some specialists to consult on the issue of the breakdown of marriage? Surely some research would help us understand how we might build better marriages for the sake of our children. But there is almost nothing. Once again, a lack of diversity of thought is leading to worse outcomes for our nation. All this is purposely planned and the State stands by and does nothing.
- A healthy nation is built upon an openness to listen to all sides of the argument. But the State itself is refusing to allow these open debates on campus. Instead, the State itself, through its poorly-formed, hate-speech laws, makes it impossible to talk about certain topics that have to be talked about if GB is to get out of its marriage-destroying, bankrupting worldview. Of course, one can seek to blame the students, but the students themselves are just young people who have been brainwashed by the one-sided, university system that the State itself is responsible for creating. Sexual and family norms play a massive role in the building of healthy communities. Where there are many broken families, the communities are often also broken. The growing inability to talk about these things, on campus and in society, can only cause the next generation more harm. One has to be free to talk of such things without fear of being fined or fired. But the State itself creates these warped, hate-speech laws.
- Put simply, today, the government itself is just doing the bidding of the cultural Marxists and Britain can only go bankrupt as a result. Class sizes are rising. The police are underfunded. Hospitals are struggling. But this is just the start. No nation can leave behind its marital norms and survive. Why? Because the child demands the love and protection of both its biological parents. We cannot escape this reality. A nation neglects this fact at its peril. And yet, the State is being led to believe it is building a brighter future where tolerance and fairness abound. Just look where being dragged along by the god of ‘fairness’ took the USSR. To destruction.
- I implore the committee to recommend that the State enforces real diversity within ALL university departments and the BBC.
- I implore the committee to recommend that the State demands that several universities open Departments of Marriage and Family so as to better support the lives of those who have chosen marriage as a lifestyle so as to best protect their children and the wide social fabric.
- I implore the committee to recommend that no hate speech law restricts the ability of individuals to talk about sexual and family norms – and how they play a key role in protecting the interests of children.
