National Sheep Association – Written Evidence (JTN0001)
- The UK currently exports a very limited amount of sheepmeat to Japan. There is some moderate opportunity for UK exports of sheepmeat and NSA believes it would be a positive to expand that where possible. Japan relies on imports of sheepmeat to supply its domestic demand so creating opportunities can only be a positive as it just allows for a further market for British exports.
- This would be disappointing as there are potential opportunities and already some sheepmeat going into Japan from the UK so it would be a shame to lose that. However, the quantities are so small it would not be devastating. However, it cannot be emphasised enough how important it is for the UK to build as many further deals and opportunities as possible to allow a variety of exports to thrive.
