Written evidence submitted by Sarah Solemani

I write to request that I be called to give oral evidence to the Committee’s Inquiry on prostitution. I enclose below brief details of my expertise on this issue.

I am a writer and actress (Him & Her and Bad Education). I am an active member of the Labour Party and work with Yvette Cooper MP in particular on feminist campaigns and strategy.

As a feminist campaigner I have a particular interest in women’s safety and in the campaign to abolish the laws criminalising sex work which I believe make sex workers more vulnerable to violence.  I have worked with the English Collective of Prostitutes for nearly two years. I opposed the amendment to the Modern Slavery Act (2014) which aimed to criminalise sex workers’ clients. This was withdrawn due to lack of support among parliamentarians.

I ask that I am invited to give oral evidence to this Inquiry.
