Witten evidence from Cohabitation Rights Consultation, A Cole [HAV0354]
I am writing to voice my opinion against the proposed motion to grant cohabitation rights
Marriage is the bedrock of society benefitting mental and physical health of the couple and their children married men are shown to better health and drug abuse in married women is proven to be lower. Marriage provides a clear line of demarcation say to those lodging together or cohabitees. Blurring these lines by giving legal status cannot be a good choice.
Marriage, although not as sacred as it used to be has a lowere parental separation rate than for cohabitation couples. Statistics show more than half of children will go through the separation of their parents by the age of five compared to 15% for children of married couple
