Written evidence submitted by Beatson Clark Ltd

Beatson Clark Ltd welcomes the Environmental Audit Committee’s inquiry ‘Next steps for Deposit Return Schemes’, which provides much-needed parliamentary scrutiny around the introduction of the proposed Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), and the unintended consequences this could cause for glass.

With the regulatory consultation on the design of a DRS on the horizon – which will decide, amongst other things, the materials in scope of a DRS – the Inquiry comes at a pivotal moment for the future of glass recycling.

We are therefore writing to put on record our support for British Glass’ written submission to the inquiry. We have been working closely with British Glass, as our trade association, and have fed into the process they have undertaken to form their submission.

The submission produced by British Glass provides an accurate collective representation of the UK glass industry’s concerns surrounding the introduction of a UK-wide DRS, and the inclusion of glass within it. We fully support the contents of the submission.

Yours faithfully,
