(APG0035)

Written evidence submitted by Sir David Amess MP

I understand that your Committee is conducting a review of APPGs, including the allocation of Parliamentary security passes.

I would like to bring to your attention the attached submission from Mr Ronnie King, the Honorary Secretary of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Fire Safety and Rescue. Mr King has held this position for 8 years and was involved in the running of the APPG for a further 8 years previously to becoming Hon Sec.

Throughout my chairmanship of the APPG Mr King has provided exceptional support to the Group and has used his pass, provided by a Peer, to meet with not only MPs but Ministers, interest groups and representatives of Unions and Associations on the Parliamentary Estate. He also arranges the APPG meetings and briefs the group on issues to be discussed and the current state of legislation. His background in the Fire Service and numerous contacts in the industry make him invaluable to the Group.

I would ask you to read his submission carefully as his position with respect to the APPFSRG is replicated by many individuals providing the secretariat to APPGs and the loss of his ability to meet with Members and Ministers would be a blow to the efficiency and influence of the APPG.
