Relationship to Tobias: Mother
First diagnosed with mental health issues after being bullied at school at the age of 14 – Depression and Anxiety. He is now 21.
Withdrawn from school at age of 15 as school couldn't solve the issue. Home educated as no school place could be found.
3 times assessed by CAHMS but they could not give him any therapy.
Prescribed about 6 different anti-depressants - none really help.
Tried to commit suicide in December 2023. Diagnosed with BPD and PTSD, given new drugs. Drugs make him sleep a lot and put on weight and feel no emotion.
Have twice presented at casualty in 2022/23 - first time waited 8 hours with a young person in crisis and having rolling panic attacks. Left and went back the next night and waited another 8 hours before being seen. No help given.
Have provided 30 sessions of CBT, he has recently had DBT (20 sessions) and is now undergoing EMDR. All paid for by his parents.
I feel passionately about the fact the system is very broken. I have obviously given you only a brief snap shot of the 6 year journey we've been on. It is heartbreaking to see such a talented young man unable to lead a normal life.
We live in Wandsworth, right near St George’s hospital which has one of the largest Mental Health NHS Trusts in the UK and still there’s no help.
