The areas where I feel have been let down by the covenant is as follows.

I have recently served overseas for 3 years and on my return I applied for Car insurance. Even though I was overseas serving in the military, my no claims reset to zero as I did not have continuance even though prior to serving overseas I had the maximum no claims.

On return from overseas my daughter applied for universal credit. This was refused as since she had stayed with my wife and I in our overseas accommodation she was not classed as a British Resident nor British itself on return to the UK – even though she is a holder of a British and British Diplomatic passport was not seen as a British Resident. She has had no monies from July to November.

I explained on the phone to UC that I was in the military, and she was a dependent – this made no difference. I explained about the Forces Covenant, and again made no difference.

I have served since December 1986 in the Armed Forces and to me the covenant is just a document that companies and individuals sign – for what purpose.

Members of the Forces should not to be disadvantaged and neither should their families but in reality we are.
