My Life My Choice responses from Shaunie Picken Consultant (staff member with a learning disability) and Campaign Champion; Keith Filleul (trustee - NB all MLMC trustees have a learning disability) and campaign Champion.
1 If we do not sort out social care:
will that cost the NHS and Councils more money?
Yes - because you will have to pay more for people in care homes.
what does that mean for everyone?
For people LDs it would be bad, people could end up in institutions and taxes would go up for public to pay for things
2 What are the NHS, Councils and everybody else missing out on because we have not sorted out social care?
Medication for astarters, appoinments and GPs and waiting lists saway,
3 What will be the problems for everybody if we do not sort out social care?
peoplew not getting medicatio, seeing their doctor or getting treatment quickly enough.
4 What groups of people suffer most if we do not sort out social care?
people with profound learniunmg diusabiltiy and also nonm verbal people, but also people who live inedependent abnnd dont sa;ways get enough sjupport.
5 How can good social care support help us make our economy better too?
so more people witrh ld and othrt disability will want to work and volunteer, more people will be active and prtoactive.
6 When the government does a budget or spends money, does it think about social care?
No. becausse they look at just monreey and taxesd and inflatiuon nsdtead of bigger pivcture of quality of life and how over a lifetime better support leads to a life with less heralkth problems
7 When the government gives money for social care, how can it make sure this is spent well?
by regulating it by lical councils so ythey have more power to maake decisions - by keeping an eyer on wehat gets spend and where and what goes out and in., a
