Supplementary written evidence submitted by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) [ROP0065]

Following the appearance by IPSO Head of Complaints & Pre-publication Services Alice Gould before the committee on Wednesday, I’m writing to provide, as she discussed, some more background on one of the points raised by Caroline Nokes MP – namely how IPSO defines older people when our Standards monitoring work identifies concerns related to older people in complaints we have investigated.

To clarify, our monitoring relates to complaints about ageism. While it is most common for us to see issues being raised in relation to older people, we know that ageism can affect people at any age. Our monitoring is therefore geared at picking up concerns about ageism and age-related stereotypes regardless of the age (or perceived age) of the subject.
