RAF Odiham accommodation review
- Mess and blocks faced rat infestation resulting in junior ranks having to use the Sgt’s mess. In my block (Typhoon) we had rats waiting in the kitchen to eat any food left out while individuals were preparing meals. (rats witness walking over food prep area and faeces was present in the kitchen with three dead rats also found.
- Washing machines and dryers are continually broken as they are unfit for the level of usage. This has resulted in multiple floods which poses a risk to damp and damaging flooring infrastructure. (industrial equipment is required)
- Block cooking facilities are a hot plate, kettle and microwave. This makes food preparation limited and reduces individuals ability to maintain a balanced diet.
- Heating system in blocks is uneconomical and obsolete. The heating takes up to 2 weeks to warm up when switched on, so service people have to endure freezing living environments while this process occurs. Radiators also take a long period of time to heat so preheating the room causes an unnecessary amount of energy to be used to achieve the intended result.
- Vacuum cleaners/ cleaning equipment is mainly broken so we are unable to maintain a clean and hygienic environment within our living area.
- Vinci are much better than Amey when actioning work services.
- Aspects of the accommodation in Odiham has remained relatively unchanged since 1950’s so older block require pulling down to improve usage of space and create a modernised living environment for service personal as block life is a leading factor in the reduced morale of the work force which is impacting operational output.
- Shower room has blocked drains and poor shower heads so water pressure is substandard with a risk of flooding as the pipes are not draining the water.
