Service accommodation evidence
Generally, service accommodation is of an acceptable level and is good value for money. I have lived in service accommodation for the majority of my 30 year RAF career so far.
However, the system for maintenance and repairs for Service Families’ Accommodation (SFA) is inefficient, poorly managed and not subject to oversight.
In the last 18 months, I have reported at least 10 faults – ranging from my family being locked out of the house (door locks fitted, but no keys available), to electrical faults, smoke alarms going off and insecure fences.
I have had 7 missed appointments – times where I have had to stay home from work for either a half day, or full day, and await a tradesman – just for them to not turn up and with no notice given.
As a landlord myself, I am required to fix any problems as soon as practical and at a time that suited the tenant – why is the same consideration not given to military personnel?
