Written evidence from James Ball (ELV0014)

To the Members of Parliament,

Subject: Request to Bring Forward the 2030 EV Target

I am writing to urge you to consider bringing forward the target date for achieving 100% electric vehicle (EV) sales from 2030 to an earlier date. The pressing need to tackle climate change and reduce our carbon footprint demands immediate and decisive action.

The rapid advancement of EV technology, increased investment, and growing public acceptance of EVs as a viable alternative to traditional vehicles make it feasible to achieve this goal ahead of schedule. Moreover, the transport sector is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, so accelerating the transition to EVs would have a significant positive impact on reducing emissions and meeting our climate goals.

Additionally, several countries around the world have already set ambitious targets for EV adoption and are working towards achieving them at a faster pace than the UK. By bringing forward our target date, we can demonstrate our commitment to addressing climate change and position the UK as a leader in the global shift towards cleaner transportation.

Furthermore, moving the target date forward would spur innovation and investment in the EV industry, creating jobs and economic opportunities. The UK has the potential to become a hub for EV research, development, and manufacturing, and this would support our broader economic goals while also helping us address the climate crisis.

In conclusion, I urge you to consider bringing forward the 2030 target date for achieving 100% EV sales. It is an opportunity for the UK to demonstrate leadership on climate action, promote economic growth, and help safeguard our planet for future generations.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours sincerely,

James Ball
