Written evidence (FAM0012)
[***]
I am employed as a clinical specialist nurse in renal oncology at a large London NHS trust.
I have worked in cancer services for the past 23 yrs. as a research coordinator in oncology and as specialist nurse. it’s a very busy job. We are the specialist centre for kidney cancer surgery and its treatment.10 hospitals are attached to our service including patients from different parts on the country. Therefore, we support a large number of patients & and their families.
I am submitting this information regarding the application previously submitted for my elderly mother in 2013.
My father passed away in early January 2013, for that reason, I wish for my mother to reside with me in the UK.
My previous application was unsuccessful and rejected due of lack of evidence. I appealed the decision, and the Judge dismissed the case in 2014, stating that there was insufficient evidence.
I have written and submitted a very detailed letter explaining the difficult situation we were facing at the time. Despite spending nearly £6000 in legal and court fees etc, however the outcome was the same.
I own a two-bedroom house and have a stable income. I have no other dependants except my mother to support.
It is very difficult for me to look after my mother from here as she lives nearly 7000km away. There is no social system or infrastructure that could offer her help and support, (i.e., who can go and provide the support and help in the community), and I have no close relatives whatsoever who can provide long term support to help to look after my mother.
I was unable to obtain support for my father during the last few months of his life, due to the distance and I find myself in this position again with my mother. I have nobody to support me in the UK.
this has been a very challenging and difficult period in my life. I have contacted several political leaders including the home secretary, my local MP, and London Mayor without success.
My mother has been visiting on a 6 monthly holiday visa.
During the covid Pandemic It was impossible for me to leave my mother on her own, and the pandemic added an extra barrier to her care and couldn’t get anyone to stay with her or look after her. Therefore, my mother came to stay with me late October 2020 and couldn’t return home due to covid pandemic and flight restrictions etc.
She became quite unwell and developed interstitial lung disease and couldn’t travel due to shortness of breath and this has affected her mobility. Therefore, I applied for her to stay with me as my dependent in November 2021, to date we have not heard from the home office. This has had an adverse effect on her health and additional stress for me.
I hope the home office will consider all the relevant medical certificates and all other supporting documents submitted with this application, so that I can continue my work without stressing about my mother
The financial and emotional cost of my situation is immeasurable.
This may sound subjective, I feel that, although I am a British citizen, but I have no rights
