I have only had to use the CMS for 2 years, as my ex partner stopped paying our agreed child maintenance in 2019.
The way that the calculations are worked out does not take into account the true costs associated with caring for a child.
The old personal agreement with my ex partner was for £140 a month maintenance, but he never contributed to “extras”, which consisted of: uniform, clothing, school costs ie lunches + trips, extra curricula clubs, after school care.
Since CMS have been involved the child maintenance received has been reduced to £70 a month – despite my ex-partner paying himself over £2000 a month.
This has left myself and my child on the borderline of poverty as I can now not afford the essentials my child needs which her father has never assisted with outside of the agreed maintenance.
