Regarding the sale and use of fireworks in the UK
I believe that the escalation in use of fireworks over recent years is detrimental in many ways. Thousands of animals and birds are terrified of them. Farm animals are at great risk of damage due to injuring themselves in panic, or of suffering miscarriages if frightened whilst pregnant. Birds can suffer fear and disruption, especially during the breeding season, or whilst trying to shelter in inclement weather. Domestic animals suffer greatly from fireworks, making life a total misery for them, and for their owners. Countless living creatures are badly affected by fireworks. They can also cause damage by setting fire to buildings, crops and heathland. And of course the remains of fireworks litter the environment, some of which might be harmful if ingested by livestock and other creatures.
It is for these reasons that I believe that the sale and use of fireworks should be much more strictly controlled.
I would hope that there will be a law that would make the private use of fireworks illegal apart from on agreed traditional dates such as November the 5th, Diwali, Chinese New Year etc.
I would also hope that public displays are held under licence only
I also think that the noise levels should be reduced for private use fireworks and that packaging clearly shows information on noise levels so that consumers can make an informed decision on the fireworks that they purchase.
