A new Syria: assessing UK strategy in a transitional state

Inquiry

The Committee is examining the UK Government’s approach to Syria following the collapse of the Assad Regime in December 2024 and the establishment of a transitional government.

The inquiry will determine what the UK’s diplomatic, security, humanitarian and accountability strategies are in the region, given the rapidly changing political landscape, and how the UK can best support Syria’s stability and regional security.

It will also consider whether the UK government should have greater oversight of Syria’s transitional government and how that can be carried out to the best effect.
