The Humanitarian Situation in Afghanistan

Non-inquiry session

Five years after the fall of the civilian Government in Kabul, the situation in Afghanistan continues to deteriorate. Policies and conflicts in Iran and Pakistan have led to a 10% increase in Afghanistan's population as Afghan diaspora returns, natural disasters, economic hardships, and de-funding of humanitarian organisations, witnesses will argue, create a perfect storm.

This session gave opportunities for members to hear about the situation on the ground from humanitarian practitioners, broadcasters, and human rights activists. It also explored the role of the FCDO and what more it could do to improve the situation in the country.
