The Work of the General Medical Council

Non-inquiry session

MPs will question officials from the General Medical Council (GMC) on the work of the organisation. The session is expected to focus on:

  • The GMC’s role in regulating Physician Associates and Anaesthesia Associates
  • Plans by the Government to modernise the legislation governing the GMC’s work
  • GMC oversight of doctors who are subject to overseas regulatory action
  • The GMC’s assessment of trends in registration and practice of internationally qualified doctors
  • Progress by the GMC in addressing discrimination and reducing disproportionate fitness to practise referrals
